STEARNS ACTIVE SUPPORTER OF HONOR FLIGHT/JOINED CONSTITUENT VETERANS AT ARLINGTON CEMETERY

Washington, Aug 13, 2009 - “The victory in World War II preserved the freedoms we enjoy and we must honor the men and women who sacrificed to achieve that victory,” said Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Ocala). “Honor Flight gives veterans of World War II the chance to visit their memorial in Washington, D.C., and I am proud of my support for Honor Flight.”

Stearns will attend the Ocala Honor Flight Kick Off being held on Thursday, August 13th at 5:00 PM at the Central Florida Community College Webster Center. Stearns, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and the son of a World War II veteran, will make brief remarks.

In addition to veterans of World War II, attendees will include local business and community leaders. Honor Flight is committed to transporting America’s veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials dedicated to honor their service. Stearns first helped to bring a number of his constituents to Washington, D.C. in 2007 and arranged for the group to join him in a wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington Cemetery.
