STEARNS ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF THE SIXTH DISTRICT CONGRESSIONAL ART COMPETITION

Washington, Apr 24, 2010 -  “Art is as creative and boundless as the human imagination,” said Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Ocala). “I believe that art is especially important to young people; it develops self-esteem, promotes critical thinking, and helps explore their inner abilities.  I am very proud of all the students who participated in the competition and I urge you to continue developing your artistic abilities.  It is an honor today for me to recognize our winners.” The awards ceremony was held at the Appleton Museum of Art in Ocala on Saturday, April 24th at 2:00 PM.

The Winners are:

Honorable Mention: Rebecca Godwin, Title: Heredity, graphite and watercolor, St. Francis’s Catholic High School, Gainesville, FL.
Honorable Mention: Dustin Pancino, Title: I Just Don’t Need it Anymore, oil pastels, West Port High School, Ocala, FL.
3rd Place: Courtney Harper, Title: Rekhyte, chalk pastel, Belleview High School, Belleview, FL.
2nd Place: Brooke Butterworth, Title: Persecution, pencil, St. John’s Country Day School, Orange Park, FL.
1st  Place: Rebecca Miller, Title: Scream, oil paint, West Port High School, Ocala, FL.
