STEARNS ANNOUNCES OPENING OF SIXTH DISTRICT CONGRESSIONAL ART COMPETITION EXHIBITION FOR SATURDAY, MAY 10TH

CONGRESSIONAL ART COMPETITION OPEN TO ALL DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS/WINNING ARTWORK TO BE DISPLAYED IN WASHINGTON, D.C.

 
 

Washington, May 7, 2008 - “Art provides a means of sharing thoughts and visions with others,” said Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Ocala). “For young people, art is especially helpful in developing self-esteem, critical thinking, and developing their abilities. Each year, I sponsor the Sixth District Congressional Art Competition and marvel at the talent of the young artists who participate.”

The work of these young artists will be displayed at the Appleton Museum of Art, with the exhibition opening Saturday, May 10 and running through May 25th. The winners of the competition will be announced at an awards ceremony and reception for students and their families at 2:00 PM on Saturday. In addition, the Appleton is hosting the annual “Young in Art” exhibition for younger students. Added Stearns, “I am deeply grateful to the Appleton Museum for hosting this event and I thank the area businesses for providing prizes to our winners.”
