STEARNS RECOGNIZED FOR FIGHTING PROSTATE CANCER, AUTHORED BIPARTISAN AMENDMENT ON PROSTATE RESEARCH

WASHINGTON, SPETEMBER 10, 2012 – Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-FL) will be addressing the ZERO – Summit to End Prostate Cancer on Wednesday, September 12th at 9:15 AM.   Last year, Stearns offered an amendment to the Defense Appropriations Act to transfer $16 million to conduct prostate cancer research.  The amendment was adopted in a strong, bi-partisan vote.  Said Stearns, “Prostate cancer is the second-leading cause of male cancer-related death in the United States.  In addition, active duty males in the military are twice as likely to develop prostate cancer than their civilian counterparts.  While there are no noticeable symptoms in early state, the use of widespread testing has led to 9 out of 10 cases of early detection.”

Stearns will be talking about prostate cancer awareness and medical research.  The event is being held at the Holiday Inn Capitol Hill, 550 C Street, S.W., in Washington, D.C.
