"After Saddam Hussein's quarter century of remorseless brutality, he has received justice from the Iraqi people.  Unlike his many thousands of victims, Hussein was given a fair trial under the laws of a sovereign Iraq.  Not only did Hussein murder and oppress his own people, he attacked neighboring nations, provided a haven for terrorists, and supported the spread of global terrorism.  This represented his first trial, and his crimes against the Kurdish people where he may have killed 180,000 people will continue to be examined.  It is my hope that this act of justice will eventually lead to a more stable and peaceful Iraq."
