STATEMENT OF REP. CLIFF STEARNS ON FCC CHAIR'S NET NEUTRALITY ANNOUNCEMENT

“I am concerned by Chairman Genachowski’s announcement that he intends to adopt proposed Internet regulations governing net neutrality that will inhibit the way Internet providers control their networks,” said Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-FL), Ranking Republican on the Communications, Technology & the Internet Subcommittee. “These regulations will discourage investment and innovation, and are not warranted by the facts. The Chairman neglected to mention this proposal at our FCC oversight hearing held on Thursday, and it also appears that he failed to give his Republican colleagues on the commission much advance notice of his planned announcement or the opportunity to discuss the underlying issue. The Chairman spoke at our hearing of returning data-driven analysis and transparency to the FCC, and his first major announcement appears to fall short of this.”
