“The central point is this: America is more than a country, America is an idea. This Pledge confirms this point. The governing agenda in this Pledge underscores that free people can govern themselves and that with this responsibility comes the freedom to succeed or fail. In recent years, we have seen the majority in Congress govern without the consent of the people – and we see an Executive Branch govern through unchecked appointments of Czars and spending that is bringing us to the brink of bankruptcy. This Democrat Congress and Executive Branch are out of touch with the people in making their decisions. This Pledge is a commitment to the fundamentals that make our nation so great: adherence to the Constitution; a smaller, more accountable government; better stewardship over spending; and transparency in making laws.”
