STATEMENT OF CONGRESSMAN CLIFF STEARNS ON THE FOURTH ANNIVERSARY 0F THE 9/11 TERRORIST ATTACKS

"Four years ago, the forces of terror launched an unprecedented attack on the United States.  Although our nation had long been the target of terrorists, these events shocked us out of lethargy and into action.  Since then, we have liberated the people of two nations from regimes that encouraged and provided havens for terrorists.  Yet, the War on Terror continues.  Our struggle is not against nations or governments, but against an evil mindset that hates freedom."

"As we cope with the disaster resulting from Hurricane Katrina, we must not conflate the issues.  Hurricane Katrina was a natural disaster; the attacks of September 11th were premeditated murders.  My prayers are with the victims of Katrina and with those providing relief and assistance to the beleaguered people of the Gulf Coast.  My prayers are also with the victims of terrorism, and with our brave men and women waging and winning the War on Terror.  We must never forget the horrible events of that September day.  Our mission is to continue our efforts in Iraq and elsewhere to deny sanctuaries to the terrorists and to expand the blessings of liberty."
