Washington, Aug 5 -

On Tuesday, August 9th at 10:00 AM, Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-FL), Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, will hold a hearing on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s  (EPA’s) water quality standards for Florida.  “After deciding to support Florida’s effort to set its own numeric nutrient standards, the EPA decided to impose its own standards that do not take into account site-specific conditions here in Florida,” said Stearns.  “Numerous studies on the EPA standards indicate that they will have a devastating impact on job creation, the economy, and local agencies.”
This field hearing in Orlando is entitled “EPA’s Takeover of Florida’s Nutrient Water Quality Standard Setting: Impact on Communities and Job Creation.”  The hearing will be held at the University of Central Florida Alumni Center located in Building 126 at 4000 Central Florida Boulevard, Orlando, Florida, 32816.  Witnesses at the hearing will testify on the impact of these standards and the EPA will address why it is imposing its standards.   “These field hearings are rare, but this will allow the subcommittee to get a more direct understanding of how these standard would impact Florida,” added Stearns.

Press availability with the members at the conclusion of the hearing at approximately 1:00 PM.
