NEWS CONFERENCE WITH STEARNS & REP. JOHN LINDER AUTHOR OF THE "FAIR TAX" PLAN AT ORANGE PARK BOOKSTORE

STEARNS SUPPORTS TAX PLAN THAT WOULD REPLACE ALL FEDERAL INCOME AND PAYROLL TAXES

Washington, Nov 26, 2007 - Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-FL) will join Rep. John Linder (R-GA), the author of the Fair Tax plan, at a news conference to discuss the innovative plan at the Books-A-Million in the Orange Park Mall on Saturday, December 1, 2007. The news conference starts at 1:30 PM and will be followed by Linder signing copies of his book, The FairTax Book, until 2:45 PM.

Explained Stearns, "Our current tax code is 55,000 pages and individuals and businesses spend over five billion man-hours each year to figure out their taxes. The Fair Tax plan would replace all Federal income and payroll taxes with a national retail sales tax. The plan includes a rebate to cover the costs of essentials and to ensure that low-income Americans are not penalized by the new tax system. It also would abolish the IRS, close all loopholes, and increase tax fairness. Under this plan, we would be taxed on what we spend and not on what we earn - this would encourage saving and investments."

Linder co-authored the book with radio personality Neil Boortz. The FairTax Book made the New York Times Bestseller List and outlines this tax proposal and what it would mean to the American people. The Orange Park Mall is at 1910 Wells Road in Orange Park.
