JACKSONVILLE RECEIVING SMARTER CITIES CHALLENGE GRANT FROM IBM

JACKSONVILLE IS THE FIRST CITY IN FLORIDA TO RECEIVE THIS PRESTIGIOUS GRANT

WASHINGTON, MAR. 19, 2012 – “I’m proud to commend Jacksonville for winning IBM’s Smarter Cities Challenge Grant,” said Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Sixth).  “I met with Steve Swain of IBM who advised me that Jacksonville was a finalist for this grant, and now Jacksonville is one the few cities around the world selected this year from more than 150 applicants for this distinction.”

The IBM Smarter Cities Challenge is a competitive grant program in which IBM is awarding a total of $50 million worth of technology and services to 100 municipalities around the world through 2013. IBM selected cities that made the strongest case for participating in the Smarter Cities Challenge. During these engagements, IBM technical experts, researchers and consultants immerse themselves in local issues and offer a range of options and recommended next-steps.  Among the issues they examine are healthcare, education, safety, social services, transportation, sustainability, budget management and energy.
