CLUB FOR GROWTH HONORS CLIFF STEARNS WITH ANNUAL "DEFENDER OF ECONOMIC FREEDOM" AWARD

STEARNS ONE OF 32 HOUSE MEMBERS TO EARN AWARD FOR SUPPORTING ECONOMIC GROWTH

Washington, Jul 29, 2009 - Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Sixth) today received the annual “Defender of Economic Freedom” Award from the Club for Growth. “With his score of 96, Congressman Stearns is a champion of the pro-growth agenda,” said Chris Chocola, President of the Club for Growth. “As one of 32 House members to earn this award, Stearns has demonstrated a strong commitment to economic freedom and free-market principles.”

“I am honored for this award recognizing my tireless efforts to promote economic growth and providing every American the opportunity to succeed,” said Stearns. “In these dire financial times, it is essential to redouble our efforts to reinvigorate the economy and restore growth.”

The Award is based on key votes cast of 23 important issues, including opposing higher taxes and the bailout of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and supporting cutting funds in congressional earmarks. The Club for Growth is the nation’s leading free-market advocacy organization with over 40,000 members.
