  1. I’m pleased the NDAA Conference Report accepts the Air Force plan to keep A-10 fighters in Fort Wayne. This Conference Report is a victory for the people of Indiana and the citizen soldiers who fly the A-10 with the 122nd Fighter Wing of th...e Indiana National Guard in Fort Wayne. These men and women provide outstanding service for our country and state and deserve the certainty of knowing their assignments in Fort Wayne are secure. I will continue working to ensure that the Air Force abides by this agreement.

The 122nd, known as the Blacksnakes, is a battle-tested force and its strength is matched only by its efficiency. Taxpayers expect Washington to make every penny count and it makes sense to fully employ a base that operates at just 28 cents on the dollar when compared to active duty forces.

In addition, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2013 gives our men and women the support they need to defend our nation. Given the fiscal situation facing our country, this bill provides for the common defense in a fiscally responsible way. As an advocate for our 122nd Fighter Wing, I strongly support keeping A-10s in Fort Wayne. As someone who will always look for more savings, I would like to see the Air Force more fully employ the capabilities of the Air National Guard.

To David, Conn already has a ban on assault weapons, meaning the law didnt work. Mexico has a full ban on all guns, that dosnt stop the cartels from getting fully automatic weapons. Simply put, bans dont work. All but one mass shooting since the 50s has been in gun free zones. Criminals really dont care what the law says. Do I need to cite Chicago or illegal drugs? Hows that going for ya? A criminal, someone who cares not for the law and the rest of us pay for? Thats like your neighbor getting a speeding ticket and you getting a speed limiter on your car to limit you to 55 mph, hey proven fact speeding cars kill more people than guns. You said limit the .223 ammo, this shows you really dont know much about type of ammo, its more or less a glorified .22 but longer. But oh wait that would lead to all guns, gosh thats what you libs want anyway. Limit 10 round mags, Ive been in the military and trained to change those on an ACTUAL assault rifle, 3 secs to change and Im shooting again, not going to stop things. Every time there has been more guns, not less, crime has dropped, but facts dont mean much to libs living in fear and emotions, like your self. Like wise, every time guns have been taken, crime has shot through the roof. Lets not forget the fact the worse school killings are still in Germany and the UK, both with almost total gun bans in place, worked real well there. Heres an idea, go to downtown Chicago and just sit in the park for a few hours on the south side. Tell me how safe you are with that gun ban they have. Here's the true story David, to buy a gun in a gun store, you have to pass a background check. I would even be in favor of a card proving you have had a background check for ammo, I will give that. However, FACT, only 4% of guns used in crime were bought legally. Here we go law abiding people being punished for the acts of a few. Those who are the few, look them up. Once upon a time, doing time was hard. Now the only hard thing you have to deal with is the fact you have other animals there that will snap when they are there. I see a rock pile that needs broke down.Lets get tough on those who are acting out, you know, not the law abiding but the actual criminals. But that would be common sense to which the Liberals dont seem to have. It should come as no surprise I support the NRA fully, as a matter of fact, Im signing up next week. The whole argument from the left and those in New England is based solely on emotional fear. We are pilots in the air, mind you a stray round breaking a window at 25000 plus feet will bring down an airliner due to sudden cabin depressurization, yet they carry with a CCW. I do agree one should have some kind of traing and prove they can operate a fire arm, we have a generation that knows nothing of them, because your generation made it tabo. I learned what I know from my grandfather and yes, Im teaching my kids what Ive learned. Just to close, lets get real with the problem, let actual deal with the problem. Taking guns is like wiping a runny nose to get ride of a cold/flu, works great.

    • I hope you have a Merry Christmas Stutzman. You should be well rested since you have done nothing since getting to Congress. Can you say compromise? Did you not promise to work across party lines when you were running?

    • NRA talking points. I agree that hollywood, the media, TV, etc- theres too much glorification of violence to solve problems, etc. but on the other hand- how about some gun law reforms to keep us safe from militant/radical gun nuts? 10 rnd magazines; stop selling 223 ammo; comprehen sive background checks at gun shows; tighten up the terrorist watch list- . fully fund the BATF; and let the President appoint a Director, and have the GOP in the senate to confirm him/her. limit the availibility of 223 typee weapons except to BATF authorized persons. its time to put the NRA, and radical gun owners on a 5 yr time out, till the insanity dies down. yes- criminals will find a gun, but why make it easy for them; and an AR15 variant- is waay to overpowered for suburban home defense; and if you cant hit your target in 10 rounds, you are a crappy marksman. so theres a start- it doesnt take away guns from lawful citizens, but limits the carnage. doing nothing is not an option. I have a long record as a gun rights advocate; and these reforms are just whats needed at this time. so Mr congressman? you are against baby killers( abortions)- what about baby killers( m-4s with 30 round magazines) available to anybody with a pulse?

  3. Check out my Op-ed on the fiscal cliff:

As Hoosiers look forward to spending the upcoming holidays with family and friends, Washington is on the cusp of its latest fiscal crisis, and the menace of tax hikes on Jan. 1 is casting a shadow o...ver what should be a joyful season. Unfortunately, this scene is all too familiar to the American people.

Instead of threatening families and small businesses with the constant threat of higher taxes, we need to give certainty by extending the current tax rates for all Americans.

In Indiana, we know that problems are only solved with honesty and hard work. Washington has an opportunity to tackle these challenges. This is difficult work, but no one was sent to Washington to make easy decisions.

  5. Our family’s prayers are with all those affected by the unspeakable tragedy in Connecticut.
  6. Through his many years of service, our Senior Senator has embodied the spirit of graciousness that Hoosiers, whatever our political leanings, expect. Senator Lugar’s unparalleled understanding of agriculture policy has been a tremendous ass...et to our State. As an unwavering leader in reducing the threat of weapons of mass destruction, his work has greatly reinforced the security of Americans at home and abroad. As one who has the honor and privilege of representing Indiana in Congress, I am grateful for his statesmanship, his knowledge, and the friendship of a fellow farmer. 7. Happy Statehood Day! Indiana became the 19th state admitted to the Union on this day in 1816. Hoosiers should be proud of our state’s accomplishments and excited for the opportunities ahead.
  8. On December 7, 1941, America’s greatest generation was tested and, on December 8, they answered the call. From the beaches of Europe to the jungles of the Pacific, Americans shed their blood to safeguard our way of life and to liberate othe...rs from oppression. As we recall the heroism of previous generations, we ought to remember that, although the threats to our Republic have evolved, our shared convictions are timeless. At Gettysburg, Pearl Harbor, and the skies above Shanksville, Americans gave their last full measure for the cause of freedom. Today, around the world, young Americans stand at the ready. We owe an endless debt of gratitude to our country’s veterans. Our thoughts and prayers are with those currently in uniform. May God continue to bless our nation.See More
  9. The Heritage Foundation is trading one principled conservative stalwart for another. I congratulate Senator Jim DeMint on his new position as President of The Heritage Foundation and thank Ed Feulner for his years of service.

It's difficu...lt to overstate the impact of both men on the conservative movement and the country. Their leadership, standing firm while advocating for conservative principles of limited government, fiscal discipline and traditional moral values, has become invaluable, especially during the last few years as government has grown exponentially and spending has exploded to record levels.

While the future holds many challenges for our nation, I look forward to working with Senator DeMint in his new position as we advocate for conservative principles in our Nation's Capital.

  10. Today, I announced the appointment of Matt Lloyd as my new chief of staff. Matt is just the right fit for our organization. His distinguished record of public service on Capitol Hill on behalf of Hoosiers will be invaluable to our organization as we serve the people of Northeast Indiana. Read my press release here:
  11. I look forward to taking Hoosier perspectives to the Financial Services Committee. With our national economy struggling, many Hoosiers looking for work, and small businesses fighting to keep their doors open, I look forward to using this new committee assignment to help end the era of bailouts and over-regulation. 12. The STEM Jobs Act keeps America competitive and opens new opportunities for job creators. Today, the best and brightest students from across the world come to American universities to study. These engineers and scientists go on to start gre...at companies and create new jobs along the way. Sadly, our old immigration policy squandered this opportunity by sending new graduates away instead of promoting growth and innovation here. We want these graduates creating jobs in America, not working for our competitors. This 21st century update realigns America’s immigration policy with traditional American priorities to maintain our country’s advantage in high-tech innovation, visionary entrepreneurship, and global competitiveness.

The STEM Jobs Act eliminates the diversity lottery green card program and reallocates up to 55,000 green cards each year to foreign graduates of American universities with advanced science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) degrees. The legislation keeps families together, ensuring that husbands, wives, or children of STEM visa holders are able to stay with their loved ones until green cards to become available. The bill passed the House, despite Democratic opposition, on a vote of 245-139.
