On Visit to Niagara County Farm, Hochul Discusses Local Agriculture, Green Energy, and Jobs

APPLETON, N.Y.  – Today, Representative Kathy Hochul (NY-26) toured Singer Farm Naturals in Appleton and met with local farmers to discuss green energy, job creation, and other agricultural issues in Niagara County.

“With more than 3,000 locally owned farms in Western New York, including hundreds here in Niagara County, agriculture is an essential component of Western New York’s economy. That’s why I’ve made it a top priority to visit with farmers and hear their concerns,” Rep. Hochul said. “I also want to assure folks that despite the harsh and unusual weather we had this spring, there is still plenty of top quality produce from local farms available in Western New York.”

“Critical to the success of local farms is affordable energy. Unstable energy prices place a heavy burden on farmers, businesses, and families here in Western New York and throughout the country. I applaud Singer Farm Naturals for their innovative approach to curb the cost of their energy use by utilizing wind and solar power,” Hochul added.

“We are pleased to celebrate the completion of our wind turbine and the opening of the Cherry U-Pick season. Rep. Hochul understands the importance of small business being represented with policy that makes the steps we have taken possible. She seems to 'get' how alternative energy and profitable farming are a natural match. We are happy she supports our efforts to promote a sustainable future,” said Tom Szulist of Singer Farm Naturals.

Today, Singer Farms Naturals held a ribbon cutting to celebrate a recently completed windmill project.

Both agriculture and energy are included in Hochul’s “Revitalizing our Economy through Business, Infrastructure, and Local Development” (REBUILD) Plan. Information on the REBUILD Plan can be found here.
