(Louisville, KY) This afternoon, Congressman John Yarmuth (KY-3) presented Kasey Uhlenhuth with the Congressional Award Bronze Medal for her accomplishments in volunteer service and personal achievement. A duPont Manual High School Senior, Kasey dedicated over 100 hours of public service by volunteering at the Frazier Historical Arms Museum while setting and achieving a series of other personal goals to qualify for the award.

“The Congressional Award is given to young people who are committed to bettering themselves and improving their communities,” said Congressman Yarmuth. “I am very proud to present Kasey with this honor, which she earned by meeting her goals and continually embodying the spirit of service and self-improvement.”

The Congressional Award was created as a way to honor American young people who set challenging goals and attain them. Goals are set in four specific areas: public service, personal development, physical fitness, and exploration.

In addition to her volunteer service, Kasey met goals she set for herself by improving her SAT score by more than 80 points, exercising five days a week, and completing a camping trip as well as research on wildlife and insects.

The Congressional Award was created as part of a bipartisan effort in 1979. Since then, only 6,500 young people have met the challenges necessary for the award.

The Congressional Award is fully funded by charitable contributions, with in-kind support from the U.S. Congress.
