Yarmuth Calls for President Obama to Expedite Kentucky Disaster Assistance

(Washington, DC) Today, Congressman John Yarmuth (KY-3) called on President Obama to issue a federal disaster declaration for Kentucky, which was hit by crippling ice and snow storms yesterday.

Yarmuth sent the below letter to the President this afternoon.

Dear Mr. President,

On behalf of the Third Congressional District of Kentucky, I am writing to request disaster assistance for those impacted by the ice storm that hit our region yesterday.

As you know, a severe ice and snow storm struck Louisville on January 27 resulting in the second-worst disruption of power in Kentucky history. The storm has closed schools, roads, and caused significant damage to homes and businesses through downed trees and debris. Over 75,000 Louisvillians and 67 schools in my Congressional District are currently without electricity. Our city and Commonwealth are committing the full extent of their resources to regaining power and reopening businesses but help is needed. I ask that you place a high priority on Louisville’s recovery in this tough economic climate and expedite disaster assistance to help our community recover.

I appreciate your immediate attention to this situation. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or for further information.

Sincerely,

John Yarmuth
Member of Congress
