(Washington, DC) Today, the League of Conservation Voters, which is dedicated to turning environmental values into public policy, released its National Environmental Scorecard.  Congressman John Yarmuth (KY-3) received a 100% rating, making him one of just 33 members to attain a perfect score. 

“The League of Conservation Voters applauds Congressman Yarmuth for his perfect score of 100% in 2007,” said LCV President Gene Karpinski.  “We thank Rep. Yarmuth for his leadership to move America toward a clean energy future and to prepare for the challenge of addressing global warming, and we look forward to working together to make more progress in 2008.”

“I’m very proud of the work that we’re doing to promote healthy communities by improving our air and water quality and combating global warming,” Yarmuth said.  “The measures we’ve enacted will not only benefit the environment, but also provide a necessary boost to our economy by creating new, clean industries, investing in home grown energy sources, and lowering energy prices.  The U.S. can no longer afford to rely on foreign oil-- for the sake of our national security, we must continue our efforts toward energy independence.”

According to LCV, some of the highlights of this year’s score card include the Energy Independence and Security Act, a bipartisan measure which Yarmuth cosponsored and was signed into law on December 19, 2007.  This Act addresses new technologies, climate change concerns, and moves America toward a greater state of energy independence.  This legislation will also strengthen national security by reducing dependence on foreign oil, lower energy costs, grow the economy, create new jobs, and begin to address global warming.
