Congressman Yarmuth to Host Jobs Fair for Louisville Veterans

WASHINGTON – Congressman John Yarmuth (KY-3) will host his Veterans Jobs and Resources Fair on Friday, July 27, at the United Auto Workers Hall on Fern Valley Road. Louisville veterans, active-duty members of the military, and residents of the 3rd Congressional District will have the opportunity to meet with more than 50 local businesses who are looking to fill 1,500-plus jobs.

“More than one million veterans will come home over the next five years, including thousands in Louisville, and part of our commitment to them is ensuring they have the resources to find employment, start businesses, and build strong futures for their families,” Yarmuth said. “My jobs fair will connect local veterans with employers who are hiring now, while helping local business owners recruit individuals whose military experience and skills make them highly competitive prospects.”

The Small Business Administration will also hold two free workshops for veteran entrepreneurs. The 30-minute, one-on-one sessions will focus on access to capital and contracting/exporting opportunities for small businesses, and best practices for developing and implementing a business plan.

In addition, officials from the Veterans Administration and VA Medical Center will be available so that veterans can apply on the spot for health, disability, and education benefits, as well as compensation and pension claims. Attendees will also have access to information about job-training programs from representatives of national and state veterans organizations.

Last year, local employers scheduled nearly 300 interviews with individuals they met at the jobs fair.

Hosted in conjunction with KentuckianaWorks, Louisville Metro Government, the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training, the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs, the VA Medical Center at Zorn Avenue, the Small Business Administration, and Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, Yarmuth’s event is free and open to all residents of the 3rd Congressional District.

To RSVP, please visit Yarmuth.house.gov or call 502-582-5129.

TARC’s Job Hunter Bus will provide free transportation to and from the jobs fair. For more information, please click here.
