Congressman Yarmuth Recognizes "Greatest Team in UofL History"

The 'Ville Honored on the Hill'

(Washington, DC)  In honor of the University of Louisville's Orange Bowl victory, Representative John Yarmuth (KY-3) will take a quick detour from an packed first two weeks on the job, in which he made 5 floor speeches and cosponsored and supported 6 major pieces of legislation- all of which passed the House.

Today, Congressman Yarmuth will introduce a resolution commending the cards on their 12 victories, the Big East Championship, and their first ever BCS win.  The resolution also praises Orange Bowl MVP Brian Brohm, Harry Douglas for his record setting performance, and William Gay- whose late game interception sealed the win for the Cards.

The resolution also commemorates the program's long ascent from the bottom of the barrel to the prominent status it now enjoys.

His"Being a basketball fan was easy in those days, but rooting for the football team was hard work," Yarmuth said.  "There were highlights with the Fiesta and Liberty Bowl wins, but it's just amazing-and a tremendous testament to the players and coaches of the last couple decades- to now have a consistent winner and a program that represents the very best collegiate athletics has to offer."

Long before he was elected to the United States House of Representatives, John Yarmuth worked as an Associate Vice President at UofL, and he is a life-long Cardinal fan.
