LOUISVILLE – On Wednesday, Congressman John Yarmuth (KY-3) joined local and state officials, as well as officials from Ford and the United Auto Workers, to celebrate Ford’s retooled Louisville Assembly Plant. 

“I was proud to support federal investments that helped Ford retool the Louisville Assembly Plant, and I am thrilled to see the results today,” Yarmuth said. “In less than three years, we went from being behind the curve to beating the curve – and we’re using American labor and ingenuity to do it. The Louisville workforce, Ford, and government partners have shown just how successful we can be, working together to build the vehicles of the future and the innovations that keep our city – and our country – on the leading edge of manufacturing.”

In 2009, Ford received $5.9 billion in incentives as part of the federal government’s Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing Loan Program, which was used to help retool the Ford Assembly Plant in Louisville. The program provided funding to help auto companies produce cars in the U.S. that increase fuel economy standards.

Congressman Yarmuth successfully included the ATVM in the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, and he ensured that legislation to fund the program was subsequently approved by Congress.
