Rep. McCarthy Addresses the Women’s Economic Developers of Long Island
Last week, Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, pictured with Rep. Tim Bishop, Rosemary Olsen, Ellen Kelly, Sal Solsoskin and Richard Nicolello, addressed the Women's Economic Developers of Long Island (WEDLI) at their 11th Annual Legislative Breakfast. WEDLI is a not for profit organization whose goals are to foster economic development on Long Island. At their recent legislative breakfast, Rep. McCarthy discussed possible updates for Long Island's transportation systems as well as ways to foster energy independence on Long Island.
Rep. McCarthy Receives Woman of the Year Award
Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, pictured with Professor Ali al-Rahman, Ph.D. and Deborah Dombrowski, Vice President of the Women's Criminal Justice Association, was given the Woman of the Year Award by the Women's Criminal Justice Association of Nassau County Community College. Rep. McCarthy is the first female Member of Congress from Long Island and has remained dedicated to advancing women's rights since being elected in 1996.
Rep. McCarthy Meets with Local Rabbis

Carolyn McCarthy recently met with several of Long Island's Rabbis to discuss Israel's right to protect their borders, religious freedom in the workplace and a host of important issues. Rep. McCarthy has been a strong supporter of Israel since first being elected to Congress in 1996.
Rep. McCarthy and Sen. Schumer Join Together to Strengthen Background Checks
Rep. Carolyn McCarthy and Senator Charles Schumer have joined forces to strengthen the National Instant Criminal Background Check System. Each year, thousand of individuals prohibited from purchasing firearms slip through the cracks because of flaws in the background check system. Rep. McCarthy and Sen. Schumer have introduced legislation to improve the background checks and keep guns out of the hands of felons and individuals adjudicated as mentally deficient.
Rep. McCarthy Meets with British Prime Minister Tony Blair
Earlier this month, Rep. McCarthy met with British Prime Minister Tony Blair in London to discuss the peace agreement between Sinn Fein and the Democratic Unionist Party. McCarthy, who has worked to restore peace in the region, traveled to Northern Ireland to monitor the progress of the recent peace agreement between the two parties. Devolution, the process by which power will be shared between the two factions, is scheduled to occur next month.
Rep. McCarthy Welcomes Woodmere Resident to the Congressional Page Program
Rep. McCarthy welcomed Noah Lindenfeld to Washington this month. Noah, who is a resident of Woodmere, is serving as a Congressional Page for the 110th Congress. Noah is the first Congressional Page from the 4th Congressional District.
