STATEMENT BY
CONGRESSMAN WM. LACY CLAY (D) MISSOURI
REGARDING PRESIDENT OBAMA’S
STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS

NOTE:  The following is a
first-person statement from
Congressman Wm. Lacy Clay (D) Missouri

"Tonight, President Obama laid out a bipartisan vision of how we can win the kind of future that reflects the strength of the American people, celebrates our common values, and lays the foundation for restoring the American dream for working families.

The President's path towards restoring our economic security will reward innovation and excellence, while responsibly reducing our debt.

As the President stated so well, while we streamline our government, close tax loopholes and cut waste, we must continue to invest in infrastructure, renewable energy and closing disparities in healthcare and education.

We must never forget that at the core of our strength at home is restoring our great urban centers by stabilizing neighborhoods and helping entrepreneurs and small businesses grow.

President Obama also reaffirmed our commitment to keeping America safe, standing up for the democratic aspirations of all people and opposing oppression wherever it attempts to enslave innocent men and women.

We are one nation and the work before us is difficult.  But we have taken major steps along the hard road back to recovery.

I will be honored to stand with President Obama as we continue the work of winning the future that our children deserve.
