Yarmuth Meets with U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary

Secretary Peters Commits to Working on Bridges with Congressman Yarmuth

(Washington, DC)  Today, Congressman John Yarmuth (KY-3) met with Department of Transportation Secretary Mary Peters and got a big boost in his efforts to build Louisville's new bridges and repair Spaghetti Junction.

Because time has been the key factor driving up the cost of
Congressman Yarmuth with Secretary Peters following their meeting.
Louisville's proposed Ohio River bridges and overhaul of Spaghetti Junction, Congressman Yarmuth was determined to meet with the Secretary as early as possible to establish a working relationship.  They agreed that the resources are simply not there to construct the project using the traditional funding model.  Secretary Peters pledged to work closely with Yarmuth to develop alternative funding methods that will see Louisville's projects built as quickly and inexpensively as possible.

"Given the scale of this project and its importance to Louisville, I wanted to make sure we had the attention of the highest officials in the federal government, and I am happy to report that the Secretary will be very helpful in our efforts," Yarmuth said.  "As a member of the President's cabinet, the Secretary is a key ally in these efforts.  I look forward to working directly with her to make sure that Louisville gets the bridges we've been waiting for."
