Yarmuth Brings Speaker Pelosi, Congressional Leadership to GLI

Louisville Leaders Hear from Top Officials at Yarmuth's Briefing

(Washington, DC) Congressman John Yarmuth (KY-3) hosted a Hill briefing for Greater Louisville Inc. today and was able to gather top members of the House leadership to address the Chamber of Commerce directly.  Yarmuth brought together a panel of the most powerful people in Congress, including Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, Head of the Democratic Policy Committee and Education and Labor Committee Chairman George Miller, and Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charles Rangel.  Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell also attended the event.

"GLI has been a tremendous force for progress in Louisville, and they deserve to hear directly and candidly from national leaders," Congressman Yarmuth said after addressing the crowd.  "I am very pleased to be in a position where I can bring this incredible group together for the benefit of our community."

The House leaders highlighted the success of Congress's first 100 hours of legislation and outlined the Democrats "Innovation Agenda" for the future.  The Innovation Agenda focuses on creating new thriving industries to produce millions of good American jobs through education, energy independence, encouraging small business, and investing in research and development.

GLI was grateful to Yarmuth for his work for the group and the community.  "GLI appreciates Congressman Yarmuth for bringing together such an impressive and influential group of leaders," said GLI President Joe Reagan, following the event.  "It's encouraging to hear all of these leaders express their commitment to working together across party lines on behalf of our nation and the entire Greater Louisville region."

Speaker Pelosi added her praise of Congressman Yarmuth, saying, "He's been a valuable and contributing member right from the start.  His initiatives across the board, across committee- whether it's small business, whether it's working for our children to build bridges to the future or build bridges back home, whatever the issue- he has been very, very effective."
