(Louisville, KY) Today, Congressman John Yarmuth (KY-3) announced that Vice President Joe Biden had accepted his invitation to see first-hand the impact of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and tax credits for energy-efficient appliances at Louisville’s Appliance Park. Biden will join Congressman Yarmuth and Jim Campbell, President and CEO of GE Appliances and Lighting, this Monday, June 28 at 11am.

“I am thrilled Vice President Biden is visiting Louisville to witness one of the great manufacturing revitalization success stories,” said Congressman Yarmuth. “By combining GE’s dedication to innovation with federal investment from the Recovery Act, more than 800 new jobs have been created for Louisville workers and a new era of American manufacturing is underway at Appliance Park.”

Last month, Congressman Yarmuth invited Vice President Biden to visit Louisville following news that GE was creating new jobs at Appliance Park thanks to investments included in the Recovery Act to support energy-efficient manufacturing.

In June of 2009, GE announced it was bringing 400 jobs back from China to Appliance Park to manufacture new energy-efficient water heaters, directly as a result of Recovery Act.  Last December, the company also revealed it would create 430 additional jobs in Louisville to build a new energy efficient washer and dryer.

This announcement of the Vice President’s visit comes on the heels of Appliance Park CEO Jim Campbell’s recent keynote address at the Forum on U.S. Economic Competitiveness in Washington.  This event was hosted by the Congressional Competiveness Task Force, of which Congressman Yarmuth is a founding co-chair.   At the forum, Campbell discussed the critical importance of federal support to ensure that American manufacturers can innovate, expand, and thrive in the competitive global economy.
