Rep. Yarmuth's Statement to Mark Memorial Day
Monday May 28, 2012LOUISVILLE – Today, Congressman John Yarmuth (KY-3) issued the following statement to mark Memorial Day:
“Today, we remember the thousands of American troops lost, in war and in peace, throughout our great history.
“We honor the more than 6,000 American servicemembers who gave their lives in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and we recommit ourselves to the tens of thousands who are returning home with debilitating injuries — both physical and mental.
“We do this while also never wavering in meeting our promise to veterans, our heroes from previous eras – whether Vietnam, Korea, or World War II. It is our responsibility to ensure that all veterans — and their families — are always honored for their service and sacrifice, and that our nation’s commitments to them are met in full.
“Just as they fulfilled their duty to our nation, we must also remember ours: To cherish and exercise that which they have preserved for us — not just on this holiday but year-round."
