Congressman Yarmuth Accepting Entries for Congressional Art Competition

winning piece will hang in the Capitol as part of year long national exhibition

(Louisville, KY) Congressman John Yarmuth (KY-3) is now accepting entries to the 2008 Congressional Art Competition from high school students in the Louisville area.  The Congressman is partnering with Actor’s Theatre of Louisville, which will display the entries from April 18th—25th.

“I hope this encourages students to further explore their creativity and talents,” Congressman Yarmuth said.  “Louisville is home to many fine, young artists, and I look forward to seeing the entries and showing one off in Washington.”

Numerous awards will be given, and one piece will be displayed for a year in the Capitol’s “Artistic Discovery” corridor.  The winning artist will receive roundtrip airfare to Washington, DC, to see the exhibit.

Last year’s top prize went to former Manual student, Morgan Puckett, now a student at the University of Louisville.

Yarmuth will announce his panel of judges, to be made up of Louisville artists, in March.  Winners will be announced at a ceremony at Actor’s Theatre of Louisville on April 25th at 5:00 PM.

Entries must be received by April 4, 2008 at Yarmuth’s downtown Louisville office at the Mazzoli Federal Building, 600 Martin Luther King Jr. Place, Suite 216.

Non-media related inquiries should be addressed to Shelly Spratt or Judy Look at 502-582-5129.
