(Washington, DC) Congressman John Yarmuth (KY-3) announced today that the House Committee on Appropriations has approved his request for $200,000 for Louisville Central Community Centers’ (LCCC) Small Business Incubator that will put dozens to work in the Russell neighborhood and revitalize the area.

“This project will provide good jobs for many who live in the Russell neighborhood and stimulate the economy throughout the surrounding areas,” Congressman Yarmuth said. “What’s more, it will allow many to realize their dreams of opening or expanding their own businesses.”

In an effort to bring jobs and opportunity back to the many poor and disadvantaged residents of the Russell neighborhood in West Louisville, LCCC is opening a Small Business Incubator, at 1326 W. Muhammad Ali Blvd.  There, LCCC will help aspiring entrepreneurs open businesses in the facility at a low cost and offer support services, including a shared business center, for the emerging companies.  LCCC will use this funding to complete the project, which is expected to host 12-15 new businesses in the initial phase with about 35 full-time employees.

The project was approved as part of the FY08 Financial Services Appropriations bill, which provides funding for the Small Business Administration.  The bill must now be approved by the full House of Representatives and Senate before heading to the President for his signature.
