"Sisters in a Row" by Kirsten Anderson

(Louisville, KY) Today, at a reception at Actors Theatre Louisville, Congressman John Yarmuth (KY-3) announced that Assumption’s Kirsten Anderson won the 2010 Third District Congressional Air Competition. Kirsten’s piece, “Sisters in a Row,” will be displayed in the Capitol’s “Artistic Discovery” corridor. Kirsten will also receive round trip air fare to visit the exhibit and the opportunity to benefit from a $5,000 scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design.

“The entries in this year’s competition were each exceptional. Every participant has the talent to excel in the thriving creative fields that Louisville is famous for,” Congressman Yarmuth said.  “I am proud to take Kirsten Anderson’s painting ‘Sisters in a Row’ to Washington where it will represent Louisville in a national exhibit on Capitol Hill.” 

Thirty-three works of art were submitted by high school students from throughout Louisville. Each participant was recognized with a certificate presented by the Congressman, and several works received prizes. Winning pieces were chosen by three prominent Louisville art experts: James Grubola, head of the Fine Arts Department and Director of Hite Institute at the University of Louisville; Melisa Gano, District Arts Specialist for the JCPS Gheens Academy, Cultural Studies; and Jo Anne Triplett, Contributing Fine Arts Editor for the Louisville Eccentric Observer.
