Biggert Statement on May Jobs Report

Washington, DC – U.S. Representative Judy Biggert (R-IL-13th) today issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Labor reported that the unemployment rate last month rose a tenth of a percent, to 8.2 percent:

“There’s no Administration spin that can make these numbers anything but disappointing.  Job makers and small businesses in my district are sitting on the sidelines, waiting for a sign that things are getting better, so they can feel confident to hire again.  Washington needs to break the gridlock that is still holding dozens of pro-growth bills hostage in the Senate, and we need to provide some financial certainty by cutting the debt, rejecting massive tax increases, and clearing away regulatory barriers with more bills like our bipartisan JOBS Act.  After 40 straight months of unemployment above eight percent, it’s not surprising that more people are giving up on the job search.  It’s past time to set aside the election-year politics, and focus on creating the kind of pro-growth environment that our small businesses are waiting for.”
