Washington, D.C.– Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-07) issued the following statement on the U.S. Department of Labor's October jobs report:

“Today’s latest report is a sober reminder that our economy is still struggling.  The unemployment rate has been 8 percent or higher for 33 straight months.  And just last week, nearly 400,000 Americans filed new jobless claims.  

"We need to put aside the partisanship and the politics and work together on passing real proposals that will remove economic uncertainty, restore confidence in the marketplace and put more Americans back to work.

"There have been some signs of progress.  Recently the U.S. House and Senate have sent to the President important pieces of his jobs bill that include lowering taxes on small businesses and opening up new trading markets in Panama, Colombia and South Korea.  The House has passed more than 20 bills specifically aimed at improving the economic conditions for small businesses to grow and hire. Each of these bills awaits action in the Senate.  

"It's past time that Washington break its gridlock and work together in a bipartisan capacity to pass measures that will spur job creation and lead to a stronger economy.”
