LANCE PRESENTS WESTFIELD STUDENT WITH CONGRESSIONAL AWARD

WESTFIELD, NJ – During a special ceremony at Westfield High School today, Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-07) presented Emily Bailey with a congressional youth service award in recognition of her extensive volunteer activities throughout Union County.

Lance presented Emily, a Westfield 11thgrade student, with the Congressional Award Silver Medal, which is one of Congress’ highest honors for youth service.   To earn the award, young people must set and achieve personally challenging goals in public service, personal development and physical fitness.

Emily, 16, is the daughter of Robin and David Bailey of Westfield.

“Emily is a sharp and dedicated young person who is deserving of this honor,” Lance said.  “She sets a positive example for other young people, and I’m proud of her and impressed by her accomplishments.”

“I have gained knowledge of different ways I can help out in my community and make an impact,” Bailey said after receiving the award from Lance.  “I have become a more active member of society and want to keep volunteering and improving my community one step at a time.”

To earn the award, Emily volunteered numerous hours of community service throughout Union County. Specifically, she completed over 200 hours of volunteer service through the United Way, the YMCA and TV-36.
