LANCE PRESENTS SARAH HAGEMAN OF SOUTH PLAINFIELD WITH GOLD CONGRESSIONAL AWARD

WESTFIELD – During a special ceremony at his Westfield District Office, Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-07) presented Sarah Hageman of South Plainfield with a congressional youth service award in recognition of her extensive volunteer activities throughout Somerset County.

Lance presented Sarah, 18, with the Congressional Award Gold Medal, which is Congress’ highest honor for youth service.   To earn the award, young people must set and achieve personally challenging goals in public service, personal development and physical fitness.

Sarah graduated from South Plainfield High School this month, and plans to attend Towson University in the fall. Sarah is the daughter of Susan and B.J. Hageman of South Plainfield.

“Sarah is a hard-working and dedicated young person who is deserving of this honor,” Lance said.  “She sets a positive example for other young people, and I’m proud of her and impressed by her accomplishments.”

“I have always wanted to make a difference in my community,” Sarah said after receiving the award from Lance.  “The book drives not only served those in need, but advanced literacy.”

To earn the award, Sarah ran several book drives for Books to Keep.
