Lance Meets with Hunterdon County Taxpayer Advocates on Capitol Hill

WASHINGTON – Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-07) today met with nearly three dozen Hunterdon County taxpayer advocates on Capitol Hill. The group, led by Clinton Township councilmember Spencer Peck, also participated in a national Tax Day rally on Capitol Hill.

During the hour long meeting, Lance and the Hunterdon County residents discussed their shared views of lower taxes for all Americans. Additionally, Lance answered questions on a variety of federal issues. The Seventh District lawmaker also shared his views on the need to reduce federal spending, address the national debt, lower taxes for all Americans.

“Today is Tax Day. For most of New Jersey’s families Tax Day is a reminder that we all pay too much in taxes,” Lance said. “New Jersey has the highest state and local tax burden, the second highest business tax burden and the state collects more property taxes per capita than any other jurisdiction. I deeply appreciate meeting with my constituents on a wide variety of federal issues, but I especially enjoyed meeting with the Hunterdon County taxpayer advocates who made their way to Washington to express their strong opposition to skyrocketing federal taxes.”

Lance also noted his support for renewing the soon-to-expire Bush tax cuts and stressed his opposition to President Obama’s plan to raise taxes on New Jerseyeans making $250,000 or more.

“I have voted to eliminate the federal death tax and I support legislation to repeal the onerous Alternative Minimum Tax,” said Lance. “And, I have led an effort in Congress to oppose a European-style value-added tax or VAT. American families are simply overtaxed and I will remain steadfast in my fight to lower taxes for all Americans.”
