LANCE MARKS ISRAEL'S 64 YEARS OF INDEPENDENCE

Seventh District Lawmaker Says America’s Steadfast Commitment to Middle East Ally Should Never Waver

WASHINGTON – Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-07) today announced that he is cosponsoring an important House Resolution which recognizes the 64th anniversary of the independence of America’s indispensable ally Israel and reaffirms Congress’s commitment to the U.S.-Israel relationship.

“Congratulations and warm wishes to the people of Israel on the 64th anniversary of its independence,” said Lance. “In these ever-dangerous times our Nation's unwavering commitment to the security and goodwill of Israel and her people remains as strong as ever."

Lance also urged President Obama to use Israel’s Independence Day as an opportunity to call for American allies around the world to stand firm in opposition to Iran’s acquisition of nuclear weapons.

Given the emerging threats from a nuclear Iran, there could not be a better time for President Obama to call for increased diplomatic pressure against the regime in Tehran,” said Lance. “The Obama Administration has been slow to embrace the tough new sanctions passed by Congress to thwart Iran’s nuclear pursuits and I call on President Obama to use all available resources to prevent a nuclear Iran.”

In the Congress, Leonard Lance has been a strong supporter of the State of Israel. As co-chairman of the Republican Israel Caucus, Congressman Leonard Lance is tasked with promoting legislative initiatives important to Israel and pro-Israel Americans including recognizing Israel’s right to defend itself against attacks from Gaza, supporting Jerusalem as the undivided capital of Israel and relocating the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Having traveled to Israel and witnessed first-hand the daily threats Israelis face, Congressman Lance has consistently voted in favor of military and economic aid packages benefiting the State of Israel.

And the Seventh District Congressman has long advocated in support of legislation designed to force Iran to end its nuclear weapons pursuits through tough targeted sanctions on Iran and foreign entities who assist Iran, North Korea and Syria in the development of their nuclear weapons programs.
