WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-07) announced that the House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee, of which Lance is a member, will hold a hearing on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 to discuss and examine our Nation's medical liability system.

Specifically the hearing will discuss “The Cost of the Medical Liability System Proposals for Reform, including H.R. 5, the Help Efficient, Accessible, Low-cost, Timely Healthcare (HEALTH) Act of 2011.”

Many have attributed America’s medical liability system as one of the root problems with the Nation’s high health care costs. The subcommittee will examine the current medical liability system and discuss reform options that could actually lower the cost of health care and protect job creators.

"I have long been a supporter of enacting medical liability reform that will seek to end frivolous lawsuits that force doctors to practice defensive medicine and drives up health care costs," Lance said.  "Unfortunately the President's health care bill is absent of any meaningful medical liability reform.  I am pleased that the House Health Subcommittee will thoroughly review this important health care reform issue."
