LANCE: HOUSE APPROVES $1 MILLION FOR SUMMIT POLICE DEPARTMENT'S COMMUNICATIONS UPGRADES

Lance, Mayor Glatt, Summit Police Chief Announce Funds

SUMMIT, NJ – Rep. Leonard Lance (NJ-07), Summit Mayor Jordan Glatt and Summit Police Chief Robert Lucid today announced that the House of Representatives recently approved Lance’s $1 million request for the Summit Police Department. The funds would help the City of Summit build a state-of-the-art dispatch and emergency management operations center utilizing the most current radio, computer, internet and supplementary communications equipment.

“Summit first responders are dedicated individuals who work day and night keeping the public safe,” said Lance. “Making sure they have the right tools and resources to carry out their important jobs in public safety is a win-win for everyone. I am proud to work closely with Mayor Glatt to secure these important federal funds for Summit. A fully operational emergency center with interoperable communications system will be a key foundation for emergency dispatch and services for the citizens of Summit and surrounding communities in Union County.”

“Summit needs a state of the art emergency call center so that our first responders can not only respond quickly to emergency calls for help, but also so our first responders can better communicate with other agencies and share information in the name of public safety,” said Mayor Glatt. “I appreciate Congressman Lance for making this request and for delivering for the community of Summit. This federal appropriation will go a long way to helping us meet our important goals of enhanced public safety.”

According Chief Robert Lucid, the state of the art operations center would provide a completely interoperable communications network capable of providing emergency services to a full-time population for nearly 50,000 residents. The funds for the project would help underwrite the cost of upgrading and replacing an existing outdated communications system with a new digital system that will serve the critical communications needs of the police and emergency services. The funds would also make it possible for the City of Summit and the Summit Police Department to be fully interoperable with the new State of New Jersey communication system currently being developed.

Lance said funding bill that includes the funds for Summit now moves to the Senate for its approval and will then be forwarded to the President.
