LANCE: GREEN BROOK TO RECEIVE $13 MILLION IN STIMULUS FUNDS

WASHINGTON – Rep. Leonard Lance (NJ-07) today announced that the Green Brook Flood Control project will receive $13 million from the federal economic stimulus package – which is the final amount of federal funds needed to finish the Bound Brook portion of the project.

“This is outstanding news for Bound Brook,” said Lance. “For two decades, Bound Brook residents have lived in fear of flood waters threatening their safety and devastating their homes and businesses. The finish line is finally within sight and once completed Bound Brook residents will have the peace of mind they deserve in knowing they are safe.”

Congressman Lance has been a strong advocate for the community of Bound Brook since coming to Congress in January. Last week, Lance submitted testimony to the House Energy and Water Appropriations Committee requesting final funding for the Bound Brook portion of the project. That came on the heels of Lance’s request to President Obama earlier this month calling for an expedited release of stimulus funding for Bound Brook.

And last month, Lance repeatedly urged top Army Corps of Engineer officials to direct stimulus funds for Bound Brook because the project was completely “shovel-ready.” Specifically, Lance spoke directly with Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works John Paul Woodley and Lieutenant General Robert Van Antwerp. The funds will be spent to fully fund the South Main Street Closure Gate Contract and NJTransit Closure Gate Contract.

“This entire Green Brook Flood Control project moved forward because of the hard work and determination of dedicated residents, community, business, governmental leaders and members of the Green Brook Flood Control Commission who never gave up,” said Lance.
