LANCE, GOP FRESHMEN CALL FOR AN OPEN DEBATE ON EXTENDING TAX RELIEF

WASHINGTON – Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-07) today joined his entire freshmen Republican colleagues in calling for an open and free-flowing debate when legislation to extend the current tax rates reaches the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives.

In a letter to U.S. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, Lance and his fellow colleagues wrote:

“An emerging bipartisan majority in the House agrees with the American people that all the tax hikes must be stopped – and if we hope to reverse the job killing uncertainty that is preventing small business from creating jobs, stopping all the tax hikes is essential.  We ask for your public support for an open debate and up-or-down vote before Congress adjourns this fall on legislation that will stop all of the coming tax hikes.”

For his part, Lance has called for a two-year freeze on current federal tax rates.

Earlier this week a group of 31 House Democrats called on their leaders to allow a vote on legislation to extend for one year all of the Bush tax cuts extending across-the-board tax cuts at every income level.

“Clearly there is strong bipartisan support for extending tax relief to all Americans so that we can provide some certainty to our fragile economy.  Leaders in Congress should allow an open, honest and fair debate on this issue,” Lance concluded.
