LANCE GIVEN 'GUARDIAN OF SENIORS RIGHTS AWARD'

Seventh District Lawmaker recognized by leading advocacy organization for his commitment to the Nation's senior citizens

WASHINGTON – Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-07) today received the "Guardian of Seniors’ Rights Award" from the non-partisan 60 Plus Association.  60 Plus presented the award to Lance for his voting record that includes protecting Medicare and Social Security for current retirees and future seniors, fighting against wasteful spending in Washington and allowing seniors to keep more of what they have saved and earned.

“I am honored to receive the Guardian of Seniors Rights Award,” Lance said.  "Like so many Americans our Nation's seniors care deeply about fiscal responsibility.  I share their concerns and will continue my efforts to protect and preserve Social Security and Medicare, keep taxes low and restore fiscal responsibility in Washington to ensure that our children and grandchildren do not inherit a diminished America."

60 Plus Chairman Jim Martin praised Congressman Lance for, "his commitment to look out for America's greatest generation as well as the Congressman's promise to always work to preserve Medicare and Social Security now and in the future.”

"Congressman Leonard Lance is fighting everyday to protect Social Security and Medicare.  Leonard is a tax cutter, protecting the pocket books of senior citizens.  And just as importantly, Congressman Lance is fighting against wasteful spending of our tax dollars that has our government now borrowing over 40 cents of every dollar it needs to pay its bills.   Seniors have to balance their budgets and so should our government.  Representative Leonard Lance understands this about as well as anyone in Congress," said Chairman Martin.

The 60-Plus Association is a national, non-partisan organization advocating on behalf of the Nation's seniors.  Now in its 19th year, 60-Plus presents Guardian awards to Democrats and Republicans alike based on their “pro-senior” views and legislative initiatives that include working for death tax repeal, saving Social Security, affordable prescription drugs, lowering energy costs and other issues featuring a less government, less taxes approach as well as a strict adherence to the Constitution.

“The 60 Plus Association is a fine advocate for our Nation's seniors.  I am proud to receive their award and look forward to my continued work with them on the issues most important to Americans young and old," concluded Lance.
