WASHINGTON, DC– Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-07) met with nearly two dozen New Jersey representatives of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) Tuesday.   The Seventh District residents were in Washington participating in AIPAC’s annual public policy conference in Washington, D.C.  During the meeting, Lance and the group discussed their shared support for a strong U.S.-Israel relationship and tougher sanctions against Iran.

“It is always a pleasure to meet with constituents to discuss the important issues of the day," Lance said.  "And few international issues are more important than a strong U.S.-Israel relationship.  I share the view that our nations are confronted with mutual threats to our safety and security. We agree that Congress must work in a bipartisan capacity to do what is necessary now to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons capability."

As co-chairman of the House Republican Israel Caucus, Congressman Lance has supported key legislation and initiatives important to Israel and pro-Israel Americans. Issues discussed include:

• Prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons capability: Lance is part of a bipartisan group of U.S. House and Senate members supporting resolutions (H.Res. 568 and S.Res. 380) affirming that it is U.S. Policy to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons capability and opposing any policies that seek to contain a nuclear-capable Iran.
• Tougher Iran sanctions: Lance has called for tougher sanctions against Iran including targeting Iran’s Central Bank and foreign entities who assist Iran in the development of their nuclear weapons program.
• Enhance U.S.-Israel security cooperation: Lance is a cosponsor of H.R. 4133, the U.S.-Israel Enhanced Security Cooperation Act, which seeks to strengthen security cooperation between the United States and Israel as they face increasing threats.
• Support U.S. Security assistance to Israel: Congressman Lance has consistently supported security assistance funding for Israel.
