LANCE CONGRATULATES MEGHAN JOHNSON OF WESTFIELD FOR WINNING ANTI-TOBACCO AWARENESS CONTEST

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-7) met with nine-year-old Meghan Johnson of Westfield in his Capitol Hill Office.   During the meeting, Lance congratulated Meghan eas the 2011 State of New Jersey winner of an important tobacco-free educational campaign and contest. 

The nationwide contest known as “Tar Wars” is a tobacco-free education program for 4th and 5th graders presented voluntarily by family physicians and other healthcare professionals to public and private schools within their communities.  As part of the contest, students create a poster displaying a positive message regarding what they have learned about the importance of being tobacco free.  

“I was pleased to meet with Meghan and congratulate her on being New Jersey’s winner in this important tobacco-free educational contest,” said Lance.  “Meghan is clearly a very bright, dedicated and talented young person who cares about the safety, health and well being of her friends and members of her community.”

Meghan is the daughter of Bernadette Murphy and David Johnson of Westfield.She is currently a rising 5th grade student at Franklin Elementary in Westfield.
