Rep. Carolyn McCarthy Presents Local WWII Veteran with Service Medals
Rep. Carolyn McCarthy recently presented Westbury resident and 93 year old WWII veteran Samuel Vergata with seven service medals. Due to an error with the Department of Defense, Mr. Vergata's medals where never issued, and his own efforts to acquire the medals were unsuccessful. Rep. McCarthy and her district staff were able to cut through the red tape and obtain Mr. Vergata's medals, which were presented at a special ceremony with the Vergata family. Rep. McCarthy is pictured presenting the medals to Mr. Vergata and his family.
Rep. McCarthy Delivers Key Note Speech at Autism Speaks Kickoff

Rep. McCarthy Meets with the Hempstead Police Department
Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy recently met with Hempstead Police Chief Joseph Wing and Police Officer Thomas Durnan in Washington. As Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Healthy Families and Communities, Congresswoman McCarthy has direct oversight of gang prevention activities, and works with local law enforcement to shape our nation's gang prevention policy.
Rep. McCarthy Joins Mayor Bloomberg to Call for a Repeal of the Tiahrt Amendment
Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy joined New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, the Mayors Against Illegal Guns coalition and law enforcement to urge a repeal of the Tiahrt Amendment. The Tiahrt Amendment hampers law enforcement's ability to use firearms tracing data when investigating gun crimes, leaving many illegal guns on our streets.
