Rep. Murphy Awarded U.S. Chamber of Commerce "Spirit of Enterprise " Award

Washington, DC — The U.S. Chamber of Commerce today awarded Congressman Tim Murphy (PA-18) with the “Spirit of Enterprise” award. Each year, the U.S. Chamber formally honors the accomplishments of a select group of members of Congress based on Chamber rankings for key business votes. Congressman Murphy’s legislative rankings again put him at the top of the list for supporting pro-growth policies in Congress.

“While many in Congress were busy playing politics, Representative Murphy was working to protect and advance the interests of America’s job creators,” said Thomas J. Donohue, president and CEO of the U.S. Chamber. “America’s beacon of light shines brighter today because of Representative Murphy and his efforts.”

This is the fifth consecutive session of Congress that Rep. Murphy has received the Spirit of Enterprise award. With numerous local Chamber of Commerce chapters in Southwestern PA, Congressman Murphy has supported pro-jobs, pro-growth policies to help local job creators grow and expand. Key policies Murphy advanced, and promoted by the Chamber, during the first session of the 112th Congress include repeal of the healthcare law to keep employer sponsored private insurance, support of trade agreements to help local manufacturers export around the globe, and expansion of domestic energy and manufacturing jobs and authorization of the Keystone XL pipeline.

“At a time when our economy is still struggling, policies coming out of Washington should be helping, not hurting the economy,” said Rep. Murphy. “We need to lower taxes, remove burdensome regulations, and cut government waste so Southwestern Pennsylvania job creators have the tools they need to grow and thrive.”

Congressman Murphy, who serves as chairman of the Congressional Steel Caucus and Natural Gas Caucus, sits on the powerful House Energy and Commerce Committee. Murphy, a former small business owner, was honored in 2010 with the Monroeville Chamber of Commerce Legislator of the Year award.
