After Solyndra Swindle, Murphy asks why Administration changed law at expense of taxpayers

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Tim Murphy (R-PA), who sparred with Department of Energy green energy loan czar Jonathan Silver during an Energy and Commerce investigative hearing last month, released the following statement today upon Mr. Silver’s departure:

“The resignation of Jonathan Silver shouldn’t distract us from our investigation into why the White House abandoned the two primary safeguards put in place back in 2005 to ensure taxpayers wouldn’t be left holding the bag in the case of a bankruptcy. Why did the Administration create a new program in the economic stimulus bill to give Solyndra $535 million that purposefully did not protect the taxpayer? Despite the President’s claims, this failure isn’t a legacy of the Bush Administration loan guarantee program. The Solyndra swindle is a failure of the Obama Administration’s economic stimulus bill.”
