CONGRESSWOMAN JOHNSON ANNOUNCES $7.9 MILLION IN RECOVERY ACT GRANTS TO DALLAS INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT

Washington, DC - Today, Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson announced that the Dallas Independent School District will receive $7,982,680 in funding under the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA).  The funding will be used to continue the Teacher Incentive Fund for one year.

“Teachers are one of our nation’s greatest resources because they are responsible for educating the next generation of Americans,” Congresswoman Johnson said. “These Recovery Act funds will allow our schools to retain well-qualified teachers by compensating them adequately for their hard work.  Education is an important part of the recovery effort because it equips our citizens with the skills necessary to contribute to our nation’s economy.”

The Teacher Incentive Fund is used to encourage the development of performance-based teacher compensation systems in high-need schools.  Programs that receive funding through the Teacher Incentive Fund must promote gains in student academic achievement and conduct classroom evaluations multiple times during the academic year.
