Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson Supports the Department of Housing and Urban Development and Veteran Affairs Grants to Homeless Veterans

Washington, DC- (Monday, March 26, 2012) – Today, the Departments of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Veterans Affairs (VA) announced grant awards for their Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing Program (HUD-VASH). HUD-VASH combines Housing Choice Voucher  rental assistance for homeless Veterans with case management and clinical services provided by the VA. This program will supply permanent housing and case management for more than 10,000 homeless veterans.

“There is no reason that any person should be living on the streets, no less our servicemen and women. HUD-VASH will provide critical support for our veterans, who have selflessly put their lives at risk in the defense of our Nation and our freedom,” stated Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson.

The Housing Authority of the City of Dallas was awarded $629,950.00 for these purposes. Nationwide, $72.6 million will be awarded to public housing agencies in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. This is the first of two rounds of the 2012 HUD-VASH funding.
