CONGRESSWOMAN EDDIE BERNICE JOHNSON ANNOUNCES $4.4 MILLION GRANT TO DALLAS COUNTY
03/19/09Washington, DC – Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson today announced that Dallas County will receive $4,405,482 in Neighborhood Stabilization Program funding. The Neighborhood Stabilization Program provides emergency assistance to state and local governments to acquire and redevelop foreclosed properties that might otherwise become sources of abandonment and blight within their communities.
“As the only Member of Congress from North Texas to vote for the economic recovery package, I am proud to announce this funding,” Congresswoman Johnson said. “Foreclosed properties lower neighborhood property values and have an injurious effect on quality of life throughout the community. With this funding, we can keep Dallas neighborhoods strong and contain the effects of the continuing housing crisis at the root of the troubled economy.”
The funding was allocated by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the economic recovery package that Congress passed and President Obama signed this month. The Neighborhood Stabilization Program is administered by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.
