Technology funding for Tarleton
11/09/05Washington, Nov 9, 2005 - Washington, D.C. – Today the House of Representatives passed the Science, State, Justice, and Commerce Appropriations Conference Report, H.R. 1751. The bill included a request by U.S. Representative John R. Carter (TX-31, Round Rock ) for $500,000 for the Rural Law Enforcement Information Technology and Anti-Terrorism Service Center at Tarleton State University.
“In this day in age, there is no reason that the small towns of Texas can’t be afforded the same technologies as the cities.” Carter continued by saying, “No matter the size of community, its citizens should be protected.”
The objective of this initiative is to establish an information center to provide much needed computer access, technical assistance, and anti-terrorism training to small city and county law enforcement operations in coordination with other state and federal resources.
The bill will now await President George W. Bush’s signature before becoming law.
