KILLEEN RECEIVES OVER 1.4 MILLION DOLLARS IN HUD GRANTS
10/25/07Washington, Oct 25, 2007 - U.S. Representative John Carter (TX-31) today announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded the city of Killeen $1,423,065 in multiple grant awards.
“As the Representative for Killeen, I know what a great impact these grants will have on families throughout the community,” Rep. Carter said. “These funds will help many families who are in need of assistance achieve the American Dream of owning their own home, and will help boost economic opportunities in urban areas throughout Killeen.”
Killeen received two grants totaling $1,423,065 from HUD’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and the HOME program.
The Community Development Block Grants program provides annual grants to states and local units of government to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low-and moderate-income persons. The HOME program helps to expand the supply of decent, affordable housing to low-and very low-income families by providing grants to states and local governments to fund housing programs that meet local needs and priorities.
